News for October 2013
BSODR are sorry to announce the very sad news of the death of Ron Wilson after battling with cancer over the past year. Ron was a previous long standing treasurer and supporter of BSODR. Ron, as many of our members will recall, was treasurer for the BSODR for many years and with his careful management contributed significantly to our current financial state. Ron worked tirelessly with many academics at Guy's, mentoring and encouraging them in their careers. He was unique in his ability to understand a myriad of projects at Masters, PhD or PostDoc and always improve the quality of the science. A much missed friend.
Ron's funeral will be held on Friday 18th October at the East Chapel, Putney Vale Cemetery, London at 14.10. Put this into google maps: Putney Vale Cemetery (Stop PT), London Borough of Wandsworth. It is 9 minutes on the 85 bus from Putney station (trains from Waterloo), stop E, heading towards Kingston.
There will be a get-together at the Heeltap "postgraduate centre", close to the George Inn, later in the afternoon.
A memorial fund has been set up in memory of Ron, which will help the hospice where he was recently staying. Any of you who have visited there will realise that it is an amazing place where the care and support delivered is second to none. Ron's memorial fund is called Ron Wilson's Magnolia Fund. There will be some donation envelopes available at the funeral service but if you are unable to attend and would like to contribute, please do so as follows:
By cheque, made payable to Trinity Hospice and marked on the back with Ron Wilson's Magnolia Fund. Posted to Trinity Hospice fundraising department, Trinity Hospice, 30 Clapham Common North Side, London, SW4 0RN.
Online at www.trinityhospice.org.uk/magnolia-donation then enter the name of the fund.
