Registration and abstract submission for the OMIG Research Meeting 2018 (Wednesday 28th February to Friday 2nd March) is now open.

The meeting will follow the same format as those previously held at Gregynog Hall in 2014 and 2016. For authors of abstracts selected for oral presentation (both staff and students) registration will be FREE. If you register for the meeting and subsequently have your abstract accepted for oral presentation, the registration fee will be refunded immediately.

OMIG is delighted to announce that Professor Phil Marsh (Professor of Oral Microbiology, University of Leeds & Chief Scientific Leader, TB Research Programme, Public Health England Porton) will deliver the Keynote Lecture at the meeting. Phil is a world-renowned figure in the field of academic oral microbiology, has published over 250 research papers, review articles and book chapters and is co-author of a leading text book on oral microbiology. He received the ORCA-Rolex Award for Caries Research in 1991, the IADR Distinguished Science Award (Research in Dental Caries) in 1998, the Society for General Microbiology (UK) Colworth Prize Award in 2001, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 from the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry. His research interests include dental biofilms and oral microbial ecology, which led him to propose the ‘ecological plaque hypothesis’ to explain whether the relationship between the oral microbiota and the host will result in health (symbiosis) or disease (dysbiosis). He is interested in how oral care products can prevent disease while preserving the important beneficial functions of the resident oral microbiota:

Abstract submission:

Abstracts must be no more than 300 words in length and follow standard IADR format (Introduction; Methods; Results; Conclusion). As this is a general meeting, abstracts are invited from postgraduate research students and staff in all areas of oral microbiology and immunology, to be received by Friday 12th January 2018. Abstracts should be sent to:

The cost of the meeting will be £325 (registration and two nights full-board accommodation). Payment can be made by BACS or cheque. The deadline for registration is Friday 9th February 2018. A registration form is attached to this email.

In the meantime, please take this opportunity to publicise this meeting with your colleagues and friends. OMIG hopes to see you in Wales in 2018 for what promises to be another exciting and stimulating meeting.
