We are delighted to report that following recent elections Professor Avijit Banerjee has been elected to BSODR President-Elect 2024.

This was announced at the BSODR ABM at the meeting in Newcastle on 4th September. Professor Banerjee has accepted the position of BSODR President-Elect, and  will take up office immediately, then serve as President from next BSODR Annual Meeting for two years, and then as Immediate Past President for a further two years.

 

Avijit is Professor of Cariology & Operative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences (FoDOCS), King’s College London, UK; Hon. Consultant & Clinical Lead, Restorative Dentistry, Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospitals Foundation Trust, London, UK.  He currently holds three international honorary chairs as well as being a member of the Board of Trustees, Oman Dental College, Oman.

 

He holds the following national positions in the UK:

Hon. Consultant Advisor, Office of the Chief Dental Officer, England (2020 – ),

President-elect, British Society of Oral & Dental Research (BSODR; 2024 – 2025),

Chair, Faculty of Dentists, College of General Dentistry (CGDent; 2024 – 27),

NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) Oral & Dental Speciality Deputy National Lead, National Industry Lead, South London RRDN Lead (2021 – ).

 

In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious William H Bowen Caries Research Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) in recognition of his global scientific and clinical research impact in cariology & minimally invasive operative dentistry over the last 25 yrs.

 

In 2024, the British Dental association awarded him the John Tomes Medal, on of its most esteemed accolades, to honour his clinical academic services to the profession.

 

In his disciplines of cariology & operative dentistry (minimum intervention oral care and minimally invasive dentistry, biomaterials science), he has authored 5 textbooks, 13 book chapters, >170 research papers (H index 53, 10,164 citations to date), supervised 50 doctorate and  masters’ students and holds two international dental journal editorships.
